Hale Pele – Portland

Hale Pele - Portland found at The Pouring Tales

I am always delighted to find a Tiki bar during my travels since it is a rare thing to find and there are only a few that are well executed. Hale Pele is certainly one of these rare finds in hipster town Portland Oregon. Hale Pele in PortlandYes, is has that must have kitsch, feels a bit like Disneyland and one can see that it has been around for years not like Lost Lake in Chicago which is just immaculate but Hale Pele should definitely be on your map when visiting this great city as it doesn’t disappoint. It is even worth it just to see how they perform their show when serving their Volcano Bowl. I won’t say more, just indulge in the performance when entering this “House of the Volcano Goddess”. We were here more than once and you can tell that the team works well together. Two people serving and one doing all the fancy cocktails and there are 50 odds on the menu. Paddy, the bartender obviously knows what he is doing. We were amazed how efficient they work, fast and friendly. A pleasure to watch. Not only the drinks are convincing but the bar food too. I opted for the Hawaiian Poké which was absolutely delicious and a generous portion. From the outside the bar is not an eye catcher but when you enter you have to walk over a fake small pond to the “island”. Hale Pele has been around for more than 5 years now and remains amongst the best Tiki bars out there – A real island. I will be back. Cheerio
