Atze Peng – Copenhagen

Atze Peng - Copenhagen found at The Pouring Tales 1

Highly praised by a good friend, so when I went to Copenhagen, I had to check it out „Atze Peng“, which is 19th century Berlin slang and means „good friend“. Anze Pihler, born in Slovenia transformed this former coffee and beer place into a small but excellent cocktail heaven. Anze runs his stylish place on his own. “I only get somebody to help if it gets real busy”, he explains. Cleaning glasses away, welcoming guests, mixing cocktails and climb down the latter into his storage area behind the bar, Anze is not bored this evening.

A small little corner holds space for a few people, 6 at the bar, 3 at the window and two small tables at the wall opposite the bar and the place is crowded. The small handwritten blackboard offers 10 creations from a few newly interpreted classics to his own creations. The Imperial Couch Potato with Dark Side Coke is a must for every Star Wars fan and the little plastic figure of a speeder bike is decorating my home now. What really made me fall in love with this place is how Anze works with ice. From the old ice shaver, the octopus filleting knife to carve diamond shape ice cubes to one big block which is crystal clear, it is a real treat for the eye. Combined with the pretty wooden furniture, stylish stone top of the bar and the industrial elements such as the lamps and the bottle rack it completes a memorable evening at Atze Peng, where we also made some new good friends. Highly recommended and I will definitely be back when visiting this beautiful city again.
